Nausea and vomiting are often termed as stomach flu, morning sickness, motion sickness, or food poisoning. Often nausea and vomiting are due to viral gastroenteritis.
There are innumerable causes for nausea and vomiting.
The patient should seek immediate medical care if nausea and vomiting are accompanied by severe headache pain that they have not felt before; signs of dehydration (excessive thirst, dry mouth, infrequent urination, dark urine, weakness, dizziness or lightheadedness upon standing); and vomit that contains blood, resembles coffee grounds or is green.
