Description.

Angina pain refers to chest pain due to an inadequate supply of blood to the heart, which often occurs during exertion or stress. Stable angina is a chronic condition that occurs with stress or exertion. It is alleviated by resting and taking nitroglycerine tablets. Unstable angina is unpredictable, lasts longer, and is not relieved with rest or nitroglycerine tablets.

Causes.

The most common cause of angina pain is coronary artery disease. As the coronary artery becomes narrowed, the blood supply to the heart is diminished.

Complications.

Angina is not a heart attack, but it does warrant an emergency trip to a health care provider for further cardiac testing.
