Description.

Sunburn appears within a few hours after sun exposure and presents as red, painful skin that feels hot to touch.  Extreme sunburncauses blistering, high fever, extreme pain, confusion, nausea or chills. Any part of the body can burn, including the eyes which feel painful or gritty. Within a few days the skin begins healing as the top layer of damaged skin peels away. Up to 90 percent of ultraviolet rays pass through clouds, so it is very common to get sunburn on hazy or cloudy days.

Causes.

Sunburn is caused by excessive exposure to ultraviolet light.

Complications.

Severe sunburn may lead to infection, premature aging of skin and skin cancer.
