Description.

Glaucoma refers to a group of diseases that cause optic nerve damage—usually by means of high intraocular pressure. Glaucoma is the second leading cause of blindness and usually starts with gradual vision loss. Symptoms include gradual loss of peripheral vision, and tunnel vision. Acute glaucoma presents as severe eye pain, nausea and vomiting, sudden visual disturbances, blurred vision, seeing halos around lights, and reddening of the eye.

Complications.

If left untreated, glaucoma may cause progressive vision loss which advances as follows—blind spots in the peripheral vision, tunnel vision, and finally total blindness. Any sudden loss of vision should be treated as a medical emergency
