Solvents

Many people don’t realize that solvents can be used to get intoxicated. These substances include industrial and household solvents such as paint thinners, paint removers, degreasers, dry-cleaning fluids, gasoline, and glue. Other solvents that may be abused are office supplies, including correction fluids, felt-tip marker fluids, and electronic contact cleaners (the cleaner used to clean computer keyboards and screens). These substances have addiction potential primarily because of their easy access and their powerful effects to numb the person who is trying to escape the realities of his or her life.
